The question is, how can one make a lifelong reader out of a visitor. The simple answer is to convince them to join your email list to keep receiving updates. But how do you build this email list?
Some of the tips I found on the internet are really simple. Others may take you more time to get used to the idea of doing it. Maybe they won’t work for you from the get go, but if you don’t try them out you’ll never know. So lets start with the first tip.
1# Just ask people to subscribe- and try to provide good value
This is one way of getting people to join your email list. Some people use big banners to attract people. Others just use smaller widgets on the side of their posts.
It does not matter what or how you do it. The important part is to keep track of it. Otherwise you will never know if your tactic is working. Using services , like for example Aweber, is one way of keeping track of people joining.
If using an autoresponder, make sure you have a series of valuable emails to send for the next couple of weeks. This will help your new subscribers to stick arround.
When using a form for people to fill in their name and email adres, there are many things you need to take in consideration. Test your elements of you form before publishing to make sure everything is working properly.
Things you need to test are
- Button text
- Your form request
- background color
A particularly potent part of your form is the signup incentive. To improve this you can offer Ebooks, Cheatsheets or even videos providing valuable content.
Remember that the readers have trusted you with their email adres, so now it’s your turn to provide the value you promised. now it’;s your time to deliver. If you stay consistent it will be a matter of time before your list starts growing.
2# Contact other bloggers in your niche for a collaboration
Another way to build up your email list is to partner up with other bloggers in your niche. By partnering with other bloggers you can both reach new audiences. But there are some factors to keep in mind when selecting another blogger to partner with.
First look at the size of the blog. Bigger blogs doesn’t necessarily mean they are interesting blogs. They may offer bigger rewards though.
Audience is also an important factor to consider when collaborating with other bloggers. The more similar your audience is with your fellow blogger, the more benefits both of you will see.
make a list of about 15 blogger you would want to collaborate with
in the beginning doing this will discourage some of you to take the step as probably only 1 or 2 bloggers from your list of 15 will reply to your request. Don’t be discouraged or get frustrated. Use your failure to improve your emails.
